R3sistant vs Robskate Match Review: Report from Robben Island

What a fitting way to celebrate 25 years of Red Alert 1. The game was released for PC on 22nd November 1996.

This match saw 2 veteran legends of the game face off in a best of 15 games 1v1 clash. Whoever won 8 games would take home the bragging rights.

What an extremely close match. It went right down to the wire and was settled by the smallest of grenadier tosses on Pico map. Oldpro the self-proclaimed greatest tesla shifter of all time and brains behind the Pico map would have been so proud were he still around.

This match started out predictably. Both players winning on their respective home maps (r3sistant on p4, rob on nxnw). They went back and forth and it had everything. We even got a rare robskate service depot sighting on the 4c niklas game, a rare phenomenon which occurs only once every 25 years. The 4c game was incidentally the best game of the match which leveled it up at 7 7.

Until recent years robskate always seemed to have r3sistant's number, winning various bo9s etc.

I think it is a testament to how much r3sistant's overall game has improved that he was able to pull off the 8-7 victory this time.

The match really wrote like a Hollywood movie script and will be remembered as a seminal part of red alert history.

Well done to both competitors on putting on a spectacular show. Hopefully we will see more great matches in future.
