What are the Top 5 "most pro" 2v2 maps?

2v2 is the most popular form of the game at "Pro level". This is unusual in competitive gaming as usually 1v1 is considered serious games and team games are for fun in most other RTS. In Red Alert however the game mechanics often mean that 2v2 is a better style of game. 1v1 can be very monotonous base trade or Q style games with little room for creativity. Maps such as Keep off the Grass or HJK6 are exceptions to the rule and offer fun styles of game. Ford did an article on top 10 maps in general here. This, however, is a post centred around the best 2v2 maps so I shall not digress too much.

I shall try to be objective as possible in defining the top 5 "most pro 2v2" maps and not choose my personal favourites (for example I have always enjoyed playing Pico 2v2 but it obviously doesn't make the cut as it is considered a gimmick map). Such things shall be considered in the ranking to make it as objective as possible: Popularity, Skill ceiling, Range of tactics (can allies and soviets both reasonably be played?), Teamwork, Map fairness (money balanced?).

Firstly I will get it straight off my chest and say that Ribbon Isle does not make the cut, despite its huge popularity. Neither does 4c Niklas. Ribbon Isle can become a stack off cluster fuck in the middle of the map, where often cruiser laming will decide the game. The map also has the problem of money imbalance. Germany also generally has a huge advantage for most players so the map is one dimensional. 4c has the huge problem of not being able to fit all 4 cocks through the hole at the bottom - this means that 4c can often become a lottery in terms of who takes North money first - therefore the skill level is lower than other maps. 4c is an amazing map, but it is a 1v1 map in my mind.

V7 doesn't make the cut because it is a map which is fairly easy to defend and spam so therefore the range of skills required is not as high as other maps. You can pretty easily go 10 cy tesla spam or 6 war medium spam without much harassment on this map so it lacks the early game defensive skills required on the maps which did make the cut.

5) Z Canuta Ore

The only ore map on the list. This is a solid map created by NastyNate which requires good tanking, scouting and money efficiency. It's not as highly ranked as some other maps on the list because it is true that ore maps are fairly limited in their range and diversity. You simply don't have the financial resources to execute the sort of tactics you could deploy on other maps. Also tanking is the overruling method of play on this map. You cannot 10 cy build for example. Yes you can potentially hybrid however overall it is a fairly one dimensional map type. Regardless, it definitely merits inclusion on the list as it strongly tests a specific skill set in Red Alert and is popular on the pro scene. I think Z Canuta is the best of the ore maps.

4) Crush's Basement

At number 4 we have Crush's Basement. This is a hugely popular map created by Ford around 2017. Ford made the map after he was malding he lost to me 1v1 on HJK6 playing as Germany vs Russia so he wanted a map which focused on tank battles. This is a hugely popular map at the pro level and tests players' GQ/SGQ ability to the max. Russia can play here but in generally Germany will have a huge advantage and win the majority of the time. The reason it is not higher on the list is because it is limited in terms of its range of tactical options. It is fairly easy to block the gate and so rushing is pretty rare. Spam tanks and battle is pretty much the optimal option. There's also the problem that trucks do become chaotic once the inside money depletes and so the money situation holds the map down a bit. Still, this is a good solid map often seen in pro 2v2 games and deserves its status on the list as it is the best raw tanking map.

3) Spacecraft

Yes it might seem arrogant to include a map I personally created on the list but it is for good reason. Spacecraft has quickly become one of the most popular maps on the 2v2 scene. It offers the challenging aspect of having to control your trucks manually to harvest gems instead of ore, this automatically raises the skill level required as you cannot just spam like a robot. You are also forced to fight for the middle and use your money efficiently to maximise production speed capability. It's a very fun and skillful map which sees many good games. Tanks and teslas can be a potent combination and often choosing the right moment to pop out a couple extra CYs can swing the game. Rushing is also possible so you need to be able to defend to a high level and scout the map well. Overall this is a very skillful map and it deserves its 3rd place ranking.

2) T-Dawg

Credit where it is due. NastyNate may be best known as the guy who always ducks 1v1s, but he is also now known as a premier map creator in Red Alert. To date, this is his finest creation. T-Dawg has become a staple pro 2v2 map. You can choose both Soviets or Allies and have a strong chance of success. The "fight for the middle gems" which the map demands creates some extremely fun and exciting games. Teamwork is also incredibly important on this map as allocating resources to securing sections of the map can be the defining factor. There's also a plethora of tricks you can do on this map such as transporters, thieves, helis, migs, as well as plain old light tank rushes. This is a very diverse and highly skilled pro map and absolutely deserves its ranking.

1) P4 [2k12 Rashowdown]

This might come as no surprise. I don't personally enjoy playing P4 all that much because it can become a stamina contest. There is no denying, however, P4's status in the 2v2 Pro scene. At one point Red Alert literally became 2 separate games. You had P4 players, and you had Path/gem map players. That's how powerful and meaningful P4 was in Red Alert. It became a game on its own. P4 even to this day remains one of the most popular maps in all of Red Alert and has been that way for 20 years. Most average pros will be seen playing P4 2v2s as the "go to" game of choice. It's true that P4 is very fair in terms of money for either side (unlimited ore), and the speed and accuracy required on P4 trumps other maps. Raw production speed is extremely important on P4. Scouting well and defending are very important skills in the early game (often engineers need to be micromanaged well). You can also choose either Soviets or Allies. In the early game, Germany can be very strong with their spam of medium tanks and can later branch out into chronospheres and heli spams. Soviet players can nader aggressively or bunker and go for a 10 cy-v2 style game. There's a massive range of options you can choose from in your style of play. While it's true you might see the top players playing T-Dawg, Spacecraft or Basement more often these days, this isn't enough to dethrone P4's status as the overruling Pro 2v2 map.

Hope you enjoyed reading. I would urge all casual players to play these maps as you will develop the skills necessary to one day compete with the "Pros"

CrushyBoo.

Top 5 Asia Pacific Players

2021 actively only. Have not seen much of Yaunger, Pinky323 and other Chinese legends active this year which is why I have not included them. Pinky323 was a Starcraft player that I briefly played with years ago and was a friend of Sam-wk (he had played RA as a youngster on Chinese Gaming Arcade) . Witnessed him defeat At0m1 in 2v2 series without losing a game. He would probably be the best I have faced from this region in terms of raw ability were he a regular Red Alert player. However this list is based exclusively on 2021 current level.

5) Gravediga (New Zealand)

Diga is still a very good player whose best performance this year came when winning a competitive 5 map 1v1 tournament in which he defeated players such as Yuzgen and Lordy en route to victory. It is true though that this was a rare gem in an otherwise average couple of years. Diga used to be a far stronger player around 4 years ago when he was playing more often. He has really cut down his playing time since becoming a father (pr0 life tip people) and it is true he is definitely not the force of old at present. He will tell you straight up he is not the same player who helped me to defeat Ford and NastyNate in 2v2 P4 as seen in the video

Overall I think 5th place is an accurate ranking at present. Were this ranking done in 2017 Diga would probably even have been 1st.

2) RAM-Katsh (Japan)

Katsh is still a wiley old veteran and a great match for anyone but the elite builders on CnCNet especially on maps such as V3 Rashowdown and HJK6. People might be surprised to learn that Katsh is actually extremely strong on maps such as Keep off the Grass and Pico. His micro management and raw speed are some of his great strengths and he is a veteran legend of our game. It is true though that his tanking ability does really hold him back and he is noticeably somewhat mediocre on a range of maps, particularly ore maps. On balance this ranking is fair.

3) K1ckn (Australia)

Kickn is an exceptional GQ player and a very strong soviet builder. He has had great tournament successes in the last couple of years as well. He is one of the strongest players in CnCNet (around top 10). However it is true that he is held back by his lack of willingness to learn popular maps such as Arena Valley Extreme, Path Beyond, Keep off the Grass etc. This is the only reason he is not ranked higher as I believe he is missing the overall range of skills and map knowledge which the top 2 possess.

2) RC1985 (Singapore)

RC has not been playing much in 2021 but has been spotted on the ladder more often as of late. He is one of the absolute best rush style players in all of CnCNet and I am qualified to say that as a certified light tank  cheeser. The weakest part of his game is definitely soviet building and I believe the others on this list are stronger in this department. However he more than compensates for this with his Germany play. He is extremely fast with production, scouting, attacking etc and can overwhelm the enemy. His map knowledge is also great as he can play all types of maps but he particularly excels on maps such as 4c and Ribbon Isle. Overall I think his ranking is fair at present as his rustiness means he is not performing to the same level of rank 1 at present. When in shape however RC is a match for anyone and probably the strongest 1v1 player from this region as proven by his 25-25 50 game series with Ford.

1) R3sistant (Australia)

One of the absolute best soviet builders in CnCNet, R3sistant has improved to rank 1 in this list because he has massively improved his tanking ability with SGQ training. He has also really upped his game by learning ore maps, path beyond etc and has now become a real all rounder and this has translated into impressive results in the last year - multiple team tournament finals and victories, a 1v1 match win over Blank and respectable performances against elite players in LCS. He is a stronger 2v2 player than RC1985 and I think right now absolutely deserves this ranking as he has massively improved as an overall Red Alert player and long gone are the dark days when he would only play P4 2v2 with Lauta all day.

Thanks for reading. More to follow.

Top 5 Current Canadian Players

This list only includes players who have been active in 2021, therefore players such as Dany, Greendragon and Kr0nic are not included.

Narrowly missing out in 6th place would be Bee^ and Megajimm.

5) Butcher

Davie the Butcher is best known for flying around looking for some other peoples' business to stick his beak into. In terms of gameplay he is very good on Arena Valley Extreme map as he uses his big anteater nose to sniff out incoming light tank rushes. He is also pretty solid on Q and GQ games however quite frankly, even RA168 is better at defending rushes than Butchy boy which is why he only has a 5% win percentage against me. Overall an OK player and I think 5th place is about fair.

4) OldPr0

OldPr0 is the polar opposite of Butcher in terms of playstyle. Oldpro is quite predictable and not the smartest player but he is solid at what he does (bunkering and 10 CY teslas). I have given him the slight edge over Butcher because he is definitely a better 2v2 player at present and he is stronger than Butcher 1v1 on maps such as HJK6 and P4. It is true that Butcher is better on small standards and Q however overall OldPr0 has a small edge. OldPr0 constantly asks Butcher for a Bo19 match and Butcher keeps ducking him because he thinks he will lose. Hopefully now this match will happen and we can see who is the 4th best Canadian once and for all.

3) Fluffy

The goose! Has really improved over the last year or so and introduced "The Fluffy method" to our game. The Feathered One Is now equally adept at GQ tank fights as it is at building. Fluffy is ranked higher than Oldpr0 and Butcher because this goose species player can both build and tank to a decent level, whereas Butchy can only tank and Oldpr0 can only build. Overall I think Fluffy has a greater range of weapons at its disposal and deserves to be ranked 3rd place Canadian. in the absence of players such as Dany and Greendragon. Everyone honk for Fluffy.

2)Rushyboo aka Herm

A total legend and one of the best builders of all time. Would be 1st for pretty much any other country not named Kosovo. This guy is a legendary player and only misses out on 1st spot because he doesn't possess the same level of virginity powers as our rank 1.

1) Ford

An amazing player who became so great by sacrificing his whole teenage social life years in order to master this game. He is the greatest expert in terms of stats in all of Red Alert and he is the proud author of the 2nd best RA blog blog https://c9andrewford.blogspot.com/?m=1   This virgin is a force to be reckoned with and arguably the best active player in all of Red Alert. Certainly the best germany tanker and producer.

Thanks for reading. More to come!

Top 5 Current USA Players (2021 active only)

*Blank does not count for this list as he has not been actively playing during 2021 - otherwise he would obviously be at the top end of this list*

Honourable mentions: Xxtreme (solid tanker who plays lots of maps), bartsama (standards map bipolar troll genius), Aegon (very good P4 player) and many other decent players such as kidzero and Bakenast. Lots of good players from USA.

I try to be as fair and objective as possible with the selections and it is my honest opinion, I don't let personal differences impact it. I believe these selections are very fair.

5) Stackopoly

Very good on the 2-3 maps that he plays. He just spams tanks though and doesn't really know how to do anything else. He has excellent tank production. This sort of one dimensional play though only takes you so far and I'm pretty sure he would lose to any of the other players on this list on maps like HJK6, Rasta, Keep off the Grass, Shallow Grave or pretty much anything that isn't Ribbon Isle or Basement tank spam, or 1v1 in general on anything that isn't a Ribbon Isle clone. Think on balance this ranking is pretty fair as he excels in one specific aspect of the game but doesn't possess the same range of important skills as the higher ranked players.

4) Dr4g0n

Strong solid player who is very good on tanking and building aspects of the game on a wide range of maps. Can be very solid on T Dawg, P4 mini, ore maps and will play any 2v2 map going. His main drawbacks are that he doesn't play 1v1s (Qmax/Qmaster doesn't count) and he is maybe not quite as fast as his brother. Overall he is a solid player both as soviets and allies and I think 4th place is about fair.

3) Pr1de

Very good player, one of, maybe even the best, GQ/SGQ tankers in CnCNet. Has also become a pretty solid builder both with teslas and turrets. He really is a great player but I can't place him above the top 2 on this list as he only really plays team games. He played some 1v1 games with bartsama and took a heavy beating so his 1v1 game isn't much to shout about at the moment and that loses him a lot of brownie points. Can't possibly put him above the top 2 for this reason.

2) Robskate

Still a legend. A great Q tank fighter who in a micro managing small tank battle on a map such as Path Beyond or North by Northwest is even to this day one of the best that CnCNet has to offer. He's also very capable of large scale GQ tank battles on a tdawg or P4. I've not placed him 1st because it is true that his building skills are not up to scratch and I do believe that the number 1 ranked player has become even stronger than Robskate in the last year or so.

1) ORA-Jacob

I think it's pretty obvious that Jacob is the best active American player right now. His LCS performances against Faust and R3sistant were impressive and he also was the winner of the 2021 Royal Rumble FFA Tournament. He's become an extremely strong player over the last year and I think it is fair to say he has surpassed Robskate at this point as he has a greater range of weapons in his arsenal (2nd best turret player on CnCNet after Ford?). Jacob is now one of the top 5-10 strongest players in all of Red Alert and definitely deserves the title of the best active American Red Alert player.

Thanks for reading. More to follow.

Top 5 current UK RA players

My honest opinion.

Honourable mentions... Kippa would be 6th. Solid 2v2 tanker but shit at 1v1. Abacus., doc, shadow etc all decent players. Romper, Loopy and Ndiaz rounding out the top 10.

5) k0bra1

A solid tanking player who is a bit one dimensional. Specialises in Q tank games. Does not have the range of skill sets as some higher ranked players

4) Lordy

Ranked him above k0bra because he is more unpredictable and a better 1v1 player. He rushes and apc and attempts to build sometimes. Overall he has a greater range of skills than k0bra.

3) Blitz

Very good GQ and tank fight player. Pretty solid all round but excels in tank fights. Lacks a bit of the creativity and adaptability of the top 2 players on the list.

2) Leigh

Definitely stronger than the others on this list. Solid tanking, exceptionally good on ore maps. His only real weaknesses are long games especially soviets and maybe not the best in 1v1. Definitely a clear 2nd best UK player in my opinion.

1) Crush

Definitely the best UK player and anyone who says otherwise is just being a hater. The best rusher, builder, long game player, producer, 1v1er and tactically diverse player from the UK. The only department where i may not be best is Q tanking. Clear UK number 1 and it is not close. The only one from the UK who can regularly beat players  such as faust, jacob, ford, hezb, rob and even beasty in 1v1s. Also the best long game allies or soviet player by miles. Like I said, anyone who disagrees is just being a hater as I don't think it is even close to be honest. A massive winning 1v1 record against all other UK players (eg won 18 of last 19 vs lordy on ladder, 5-0 vs kobra and beast in tournywith rushyboo). Definitely a better all round player than Leigh especially on stuff like p4 and 1v1 even though he is good tanker.

By the way it is not a coincidence that the top 3 are all Scottish. England are fkn shit.

The Mount Rushmore of Red Alert: The MOST IMPORTANT players in the game's 25+ year history.

This post is extremely important. It will not be based on the 5 best players of all time - which is not only subjective and basically impossible. Instead, it will be based on the 5 players who are most pivotal in shaping the game's history. Such things are considered high priority in this list: map making, knowledge spreading, video creation, and outstanding achievements. It is extremely difficult to narrow this down to just 5 players. I would first like to give some honourable mentions:

  • Robskate - a 25 year veteran who has the most longevity of any pro at the top of the game. His sharing of knowledge on standard maps has been extremely important to the development of legions of top players, and without Robskate's presence the game would have been in a far worse state. It's very likely that players such as Ehy and Ford would never have reached their potential without Robskate as a regular frequent opponent.
  • Defmike - A very important map maker who has befriended 100s of players throughout his tenure playing Red Alert. Many players will have fond memories of interacting with this top bloke.
  • RC1985 - The most popular Red Alert YouTube channel in history, with 5 million views+. He narrowly missed out due to some on the list having a more tangible offering.
  •  At0m1 - A Q expert and the first person to create videos on Veoh. Also founder of TA clan and author of a very popular mid 2010s blog which you should check out http://ratimes.weebly.com/ He narrowly misses out as his coach is on the list and offered an even greater contribution (read on for more).
  • ORA-boy - 22 years a member and subsequent leader of the greatest clan in Red Alert history. His ability to keep a team happy and keep a machine well oiled should be commended. A true legend of the game.
  • Iran/Lovehandles/hifi/Myg/Tore etc. Hugely important in saving the game from terminal death during the late 2000s.
  • Ehy - One of the first major successful YouTube channels like At0m1. His videos have inspired 100s of players (myself included). He is also remembered as the dominant player of the CnCnet era and one of the greatest players of all time.

So without further ado here is what I consider to be the Mount Rushmore of Red Alert:

5.  Ford - A YouTuber/Twitcher who offered the single most important discovery in the modern era of the game. Also one of the top 10 players in the game's history. This Canadian is a real inspiration to all autistic people the world over and is an ambassador for the Canadian Autism Society. Ford unleashed the potential of aggressive GQ which completely changed the game dynamics of tank battles. He also probably possesses the single best map knowledge of any player in the history of the game. He knows every statistic inside out and he is truly a Professor of Red Alert. Check out his blog for more info https://c9andrewford.blogspot.com/

4. FunkyFr3sh - Probably the single most important person in terms of the success of the Red Alert side of things on CnCNet. A strong player in his own right, he is best known for helping to design and oversee the implementation of CnCNet5. The modern game literally would not exist without his input and help (along with others such as Iran). He truly deserves legend status in the game at this point and is often taken for granted (on occasions by myself as well which I regret). He deserves the utmost respect of every player on CnCNet and I don't think he gets the credit he deserves. Every player who plays daily for free on CnCNet does so because of Funky's endless hours of hard work - don't forget that!

3. Faramir - A forgotten legend of the game. His name lives on in maps such as WIDE OPEN (by Faramir), and his map creation contribution is 2nd only to the 1st ranked player on this list. Modern players can thank Faramir's genius for such maps as the gargantuan V3 RIBBON ISLE. He wasn't known as the strongest player in the world but that isn't really important. Faramir literally shaped the way the game is played today. Without his contributions to the community it is very likely that competitive custom game Red Alert would have died out years ago. 10s of thousands if not millions of games have been played on his maps throughout the years.

2. Milo234 - An absolute legend who literally wrote the Red Alert Bible in 2006 which you should read here https://funkyfr3sh.cnc-comm.com/milo/ra.html Every single top player of the last 15 years of Red Alert has been inspired by this man's literature. This guide is the single best way to elevate your game to the next level and has been an inspiration to players from Ehy to  At0m1 and Ford. It also inspired my own personal play. Milo returned in summer 2020 and still competed at a high level, winning the ladder 1 month and showing that even as a family man approaching 40 he was still one of the strongest tankers in the history of the game. He also created many famous and important Q themed maps such as Q 10 v 10. Milo's lasting legacy with the guide, and his efforts to keep the competitive scene alive during a life-support existence for the game during the mid-2000s are a hugely important arc in the game's history.

1. Niklas - Words such as "legend" and "genius" don't do this man justice. Referenced by Robskate as probably the best player he ever faced, Niklas's name lives on in the modern era through the hugely important milestone map called 4c Niklas. Every top pro has played this map 100s of times 1v1 and 2v2. Other maps such as NSC Niklas were also made by this legend - his contribution to the custom map scene would later inspire people to create maps such as HJK6 and P4. Niklas was one of the game's first real true super-pros (along with such names as Nike1). His contribution to the early days of the game in establishing build orders (the same build orders Robskate uses 25 years later on Path!) and his implementation and discovery of the importance of Q, Bookmarks etc were revolutionary in Red Alert. Niklas's contributions to the game inspired every legend and player who came after him and that is why I awarded him the title of the most important player in the game's history. After all, there's only 2 maps on the current CnCNet ladder which feature the names of LEGENDARY players in the game so you know he is in good company.

The 5 Most UNDER-RATED players on CnCNet

A list of who I think are the most underestimated players in the game at present. These players have some generalisations about them which are misappropriated so I would like to address this. Enjoy reading. Suggestions in comments welcome.

5. Natu

When I published my Player Grades 2020, an anonymous player sent me the following message: "How dare you put Natu above me, this is an insult, fuck your rankings". I told said player that they were welcome to challenge Natu to a Bo9 1v1 and if he proved he was superior then I would swap them. I informed this player that they would be impressed by Natu's improvement over the last year. Unsurprisingly this hasn't happened. Natu deserves to be in the B- tier on my 2020 grades as his improvement has been phenomenal. He is pretty solid on ribbon and P4, and he is especially good on Liquid. I remember a recent 3v3 Liquid game tanking him north and I was like "how is he not dying". I looked in score after game and we were the only ones with 350+ tanks. His improvement is very noted and players such as myself are noticing it. I am tired of people throwing shit at Natu when it is undeserved. He is generally a respectful player and a good representitive of the WP clan. Anyone who doubts him can challenge him 1v1. I think Natu can go even higher as he is just starting to learn to harness his pro abilities. Natu: in 2021 I would like to see you playing in the 1v1 rankings ladder and take your game to the next level. This will silence the doubters completely.

4. Jacob

Everyone knows Jacob is an absolute pwnzor on his tank production. However people have a misconception that he is a 1 trick pony. My message to you is to play him on a long game with Germany eg turrets and boats - there is currently no-one better at that type of game with the exception of maybe Ford. Jacob's turrets are made of titanium. Also his soviet long game play is extremely underrated. Watch him go on 10 soviet cys when he rarely does it and you will be extremely impressed. He is a true long game pwnzor.

3. Lordy

Because Lordy talks a ludicrous amount of shit, people have him labelled as an arrogant loudmouth English noob. The truth is that Lordy is actually a very good player nowadays and can beat anyone on a random game on 1v1. He has a very good rush. This is why he trash talks like a WWE villain. Lordy is no longer the Lordy_No1 noob that everyone remembers getting embarrassed by Snipe2k1 in 2016. [Lordy-TA] has become a genuine strong player. He still has his bad games, usually when he's been on the Pink WKDs and the fridge is empty. But Lordy's level now in general is very pro and people overlook this because of the amount of garbage trolling that comes out his mouth.

2. Oldpro

The official rank 1 most delusional player on Red Alert. However OldPr0 is not as shit as people will have you believe. Amongst all the incorrect perceptions he holds, OldPr0 does occasionally talk some sense. Sometimes the ugly bird does actually catch the worm. For example he is correct that there's a legion of 1-dimensional GQ tankers who can do nothing else and can't adapt eg rushing/transitioning/macro. He is correct in saying he would beat these guys silly in a long game. Look I'm not saying OldPr0 isn't shit because he is. However he is not as shit as the naysayers and his doubters will have you believe. He is very good at certain aspects of the game (specifically 10 cy spam). He's also improved some aspects of his game, such as ore map play and occasional German tanking so kudos to him for trying to put his words into action. It is true that OldPr0 should learn the micro aspect and keyboard use side of the game and he would be a feared opponent for anyone.

1. Bart

Bart is notorious on CnCNet for being a troll who ruins games by driving his MCV across the map or by going migs or yaks. People routinely kick him from the room when he joins 2v2 pro games because of this and his repeat offending. However catch him on a serious day when his Marijuana stock has run out and you will be amazed to find a genuine pro level talent. Especially on maps like North by Northwest and Path Beyond, Bart is a force for anyone. Any random P4 player who thinks Bart is a noob should face him on his own backyard and he will send you to your grave. Bart is the true Yin and Yang of Red Alert. He ventures from being a stoned weirdo bipolar noob who complains about lag in a warp speed game, to being a top 10 standards map player on CnCNet. My message to Bart for 2021 would to try to be serious all the time and leave that bipolar feminist alter-ego of yourself behind for good. Underestimate Bart at your peril...

Thanks for reading! Stay tuned for more!

Grenadier Masters

Grenadiers are one of the most important units in Red Alert online play, especially in 1v1 matches and on maps like P4 where there is lots of money and open spaces for you to cause damage. They are also almost essential on maps like Keep off the Grass and Pico. They are also a viable strategy on maps such as Path Beyond and North By Northwest where you could even go 2 ore refineries before your 1st War factory in order to maintain your economy and finish the game with overwhelming naders. They are extremely effective against power plants and ore refineries as well as rifle infantry.

I actually see Grenadiers  as one of the most skillful aspects of the game as using the Scatter (X) and Stop (S) keys are fundamental in addition to mouse clicking and scouting. You can truly see the skill of certain opponents when facing their grenadiers.

Here are the players who I consider to be the 5 best Grenadier users I have encountered. Some honourable mentions to Nastynate, Hezb, Otto, Katsh and Robskate:

5) Sol3|MAN|

A Finnish expert player who patented the Grenadiers into 4 tanks into Cying P4 build. You see Nastynate do a variant of this play today but Sol3 truly perfected it. His timing was excellent and he had his build nailed. A very strong opponent.

4) Ifuc

Ifuc would nade on every map and he had excellent unit control, even able to beat Ehy on occasion 1v1 and on maps like P4 and 4c his naders wouldn't let you sleep 1v1.

3) Bea5ty

Amazing nader control which is usually followed up by a quick rush or some quick CYs.

2) Herm [aka Rushyboo]

A true wizard and his grenadier use is probably just as strong as his famous soviet building. He would be number 1 if not for the Tiberian Dawn expert who is next.

1) Lovehandles

A genius. Anyone who has played Lovehandles on KOTG knows he can run rings round you. He rarely plays Red Alert, preferring to play other C&C games where he is as far as I'm aware the undisputed best player on Tiberian Dawn, but when he shows up he beats platinum challenge without breaking sweat and demolishes anyone who dares play him on KOTG and other maps. Just ask players such as Ford and RC about Lovehandles' naders. His unit micro in general is unequalled. Example video of his play below:

Top 10 Countries in Red Alert

                                              Red Alert Countries Ranking List

Your favourite Red Alert blogger brings you another interesting topic. For this list I'm ranking countries based on their strength of depth and their talent and how they would hypothetically fair in a world cup format where 4v4 games and a squad of lots of players (not just 1v1 or 2v2) would score points. For this reason, countries such as Chile (NastyNate) and Kosovo (Bea5ty) don't make the list as they only really have 1 pro player and so could not play in a 4v4 match, let alone have a B-team 4v4. Essentially, the more pro players a country has, the further up the list it will be, with the strength of the 4 best players determining the ranking. I've also notably not included China in the list because all of their best players play on the chinese gaming arcade so we can't give an accurate account of them. The best Chinese player I've come across was Pinky323 who played on CnCNet for about 3 days in 2014. Unfortunately he had major connection issues on CnCNet so gave up playing. The games I did see him play, he never lost. He was extremely impressive. Yaunger is also a notable player who sometimes plays on CnCNet occasionally. This list includes players who have been active at any time from 2010-2020.

Here goes:

10. Peru

A small South American country which is a hotbed of Red Alert talent. One of the best young players in the game is their star player, Dolche. Chuki is also a very good 2nd best player and their veteran player Loqul makes them a respectable force in 3v3. Roosevelt and Pichi are probably neck and neck for their 4v4 team but you can assure that overall this would be a very strong team and they deserve their place on this list.

9. Lebanon

A team consisting of Ad, Fighter, Madman and RedAlert1 is a formidable threat. The Lebanese tend to be Arena specialists and I am sure there are other players I've forgot to mention (sorry). This would make a solid team but not quite as strong as some of the others on this list.

8. Australia

If this was a 2v2 rankings then Australia would arguably be 2nd or 3rd on this list. Hezb and Kickn are 2 superpro players but their squad isn't as strong once you go further down the list. Players like Joey, Harkit and Bayrock were all decent pro players but they probably lack the strength in depth of some of the higher ranked countries which is why they would probably struggle in a 4v4 environment. However they would still be a formidable threat and their top 2 players alone give them the respect they deserve.

7. Argentina

Lauta is their star player, we have had our differences but no-one can deny Lauta's prowess on P4. Macch1 and Panther are very creditable 2nd and 3rd options and Maty rounds out a formidable 4v4 team. Other players such as Vardoc means they have some strength in reserve which is why I've placed them above teams such as Lebanon. Argentina would truly be a threat for anyone.

6. Brazil

Brazil have a truly super-pro top 3. Santi, Fury and GTR is their Ronaldinho, Ronaldo and Rivaldo. They are excellent players. Rioo is an extremely strong 4th option. I've not placed them higher on the list because I feel like their players all specialise in unlimited ore so if it came to ore maps and gem maps etc they wouldn't fare as well against the teams higher ranked. I'd also say their 5th-10th best players don't compete as well with the teams higher ranked, however their top 4 is truly a force.

5. United Kingdom

We deserve this ranking because of our strength in depth and how stacked we are. The UK could easily fill 2 very strong 4v4 teams and still have room left over. Crush, Leigh, Kobra, Lordy, Blitz, Doc, Abacus, Romper, Naughtylove, Krez, Simon (Loopy) are some of the British pro players who have been active on CnCNet. I've not placed as us as high as the top 4 teams because it is true that our very best team probably isn't quite as good as them and we do lack a real 5-star legendary type player. However when it comes to sheer strength in depth we are probably the deepest country of all.

4. Germany

Germany have had some excellent not-so-ironic German allied tankers which is only fitting! I'd give props to Faust for being their best player, with Funky and Mafia being close for 2nd. Otto, PeterSky, Superwario, Koko, Claus, Oldie, Natu are very respectable options who could be the 4th option or play on the B-team. They really are a force to be reckoned with. They just aren't as stacked as the top 3 teams on this list.

3. USA

Robskate, Blank and Jacob is a star-studded top 3. ORA-boy, Stacks, Ifuc and Dizzy would be excellent options to complete their 4v4 team and they would certainly be capable of beating anyone on this list. They also have several decent players who could make up B and C teams such as Antman,  Bart, Dopekillz, Aegon, Steel etc. I've not placed them as high as 1 or 2 for good reason, you will see just how stacked teams 1 and 2 are.

2. Canada

Under normal circumstances, Canada would easily be the best team. Ford is one of the best players online, Herm is one of the best builders in the history of the game and Kronic is a super level tanker. Butcher, Cousintank, Dany, Mega-Jimm Fluffy or Greendragon would be great options for the 4v4 team. Oldpro as a solid builder could choose to captain the C-team or learn to tank and play for their B team. Canada are stacked there's no other way about it. You will see just how borderline unfair team 1 is in a moment which is the only reason Canada don't take the top spot.

1. Finland

This team is just unfair. Ehy is the best player of the CnCnet era. At0m1 is also one of the best players in all of CnCnet. 2pac is probably the best V2 producer the game has ever seen and Sol3man is a freak as well. Literally their 4th best player could be the best player on most of the other teams. It's scary that Vassallo and Semmosta don't even make the A-team. People joke about WTC-seven but when he is your 7th best player things are going well. Finland would just destroy any other team on this list 4v4 and it wouldn't be close. Their team is borderline illegal and they are by far the strongest Red Alert country and everyone knows it.
